STORYTELLING WITH DATA
SDGsToday builds partnerships with many organizations to feature real-time and timely data on the SDGs after a comprehensive and systematic evaluation process that focuses on level of frequency, spatial coverage and disaggregation, validated methodology, reliability of sources, public accessibility, thematic relevance, ease of understanding, and sustainability of production.
SDGs Today features stories that are created using ArcGIS StoryMaps and organized by specific SDGs throughout the data hub to help contextualize presented data and and tell important stories that can effectively engage target audiences with the SDGs. These stories highlight a wide variety of SDG-related issues, demonstrate how various constituents can use key datasets, and help bridge the gap between data science and effective communication.
SDGsToday features free massive open online courses (MOOCs) and educational materials on sustainable development and the SDGs created by the SDSN’s SDG Academy. It also includes guided Learn ArcGIS lessons on how to display and analyze data using maps designed by Esri.
The SDGs Today initiative provides data and analysis that informs policies, contributes to research, and enables national and global reporting on SDG-related efforts. The platform highlights a number of use cases on how timely data helps assess progress and the effectiveness of our work to meet the SDGs and leave no one behind in the process. One use case, for example, tells a story about the destructive force of Hurricane Dorian in 2019 in the context of SDG 13 and climate action.
